3 Things That I Learned This Week

Each & every Sunday I spend time reflecting on my week and then planning for the week ahead.

So I wanted to share some of the top few wins & lessons for my past week.

1. Spend Time Learning & Implement

I invest a ton in continuing my education each and every month and year (most people would flip out with how much I do invest in education. But I am huge believer in education but here is the key — conferences, books, courses, coaching is all well and good — but it ain’t worth nothing if you don’t implement.

It is so easy to get caught up in learning — but if you aren’t careful that is all you are doing is learning and your business remains stagnant and nothing happens. And the opposite can be true as well. You can run around and be ‘busy’ but if you are doing things the wrong way AND the same way over and over again you will be caught in groundhog day over and over again.

So where is the balance between education and implementation? Everyone is different and at different stages in their business, but what I do is make sure I block off a minimum of 1 hour per day to learn (reading, going through a course, etc.) with the idea of finding 1 thing that I can implement quickly and do it…

2. Stop Caring

I still struggle with caring too much, bending over backwards for a client, a friend, etc. But here is the thing — if it isn’t in your agreement with that client — why should I do it for them? Is it nice — for sure, but that just shows them (maybe not consciously, but definitely sub-consciously) that they can walk all over you, and while you might think it is an exception, they think it is something that can happen as a normal occurrence.

So stopping and asking yourself if this is moving me in the direction to my goals and my why, will help you decide whether or not to do it. If it’s not — politely decline, if it is great — go ahead and do it.

Now I know some of you will be reading into this a bit too much. Don’t. The point is — if you don’t care enough about yourself and let people make decisions and run your life — how can you possible start to achieve your goals?

3. Be Present

Life is a whirl-wind. Shopping, eating, carting kids around, back to school stuff, vacations, etc., but it is easy to get caught up in the business of it all, and not enjoy the time with friends and family. Think about it and look around the next time you are out to eat. How many people have their phones (or their kids have ipads out), instead of enjoying each others company and focusing on each other? I am willing to bet that the vast majority are (until the food comes).

So put the phone down and just focus on being present with whomever you are with. The noise (the texts, the emails, the voicemails) can all wait.
