The 3 Things That I Learned This Week (4.23.23)
Happy Sunday!
Each and every Sunday I spend time reflecting on my week and planning for the week ahead.
So I wanted to share some of my top wins, lessons, issues & thoughts from this past week.
1. The Bioplastic Revolution
This week, I stumbled upon the world of bioplastics (much more random — but super interesting). For those who aren’t familiar, bioplastics are a type of plastic derived from renewable biomass sources, such as plants, algae, or even certain bacteria. They’re touted as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics, which have garnered a terrible reputation for their impact on the environment.
What really caught my attention is the innovation happening in the bioplastics industry. Companies are experimenting with various materials, like using chitin from crustacean shells or proteins from spider silk. This has led to a wide range of bioplastic applications, from food packaging to automotive components.
One particularly cool example is a company called Ecovative, which has developed a mushroom-based bioplastic called MycoComposite. It’s made by combining mycelium (the root structure of mushrooms) with agricultural waste, like corn stalks. The material is not only biodegradable, but it’s also a strong…
